3 Stars Might work for people who have never tried to quit before.
This is my fourth attempt at quitting, so I actually understand a good portion of the lessons the game is trying to share. It weakens the overall experience of the game if you’ve tried other methods that point out reasons and triggers for smoking. I’d definitely recommend this game if you’re making your first try at quitting, but until they figure out a way to create a “repeat offender” version of the game, I’ll have to try something else.

1 Star Smoking 19 years & feel like this game was an equal waste of my money!
The minigames are painstakingly unfun. When i reached the final check off list I didnt know i was suppose to check off all the boxes so i had to redo all the games. It was not something i would like to repeat.

I bought this game as a distraction & helper to go along with a quit smoking program i joined. Everything the game tells you to do is the opposite of what the group is telling me to do. The group is put together by a hospital, an ivy league school & a community action group.

What the group tells me is to cut down for 1 week, quit & use a patch, exercise for 90 minutes a week, avoid smoking triggers & friends that smoke until i can trust myself to not smoke, meditate/relax for 2 min a day, and a few other things.

THIS GAME tells you at the beginning to have a cigarette & again at the end. It took me 1 hour to play it til the end. It tells you to not use anything to help yourself, no patch or replacements like gum. it tells you to go to places where smokers are so that you do not feel deprived.

at one point it says that you should not be telling yourself that you want a cigarette but instead to tell yourself that you want a cigarette but can not have one. then a little bit later it says to not say that to yourself and instead say you are a non smoker.

after an hour of play there is an area where you can see the daily benefits of quitting. you are only allowed to view day 1 on the first day. in order to see other daily benefits you will need to use the game again. this & the bad mini games are the only use you will get out of it past hour 1.

save your money & if you really feel the need to get all this information just rent the book from the library. but i recommend joining a quit smoking program or quit smoking study.

once you quit do not smoke any more. take it from me that you can never have just 1 after you quit, you will always want another. just be strong & get support where ever & when ever you can.

i have tried to quit about 5 times in the past. the only method that worker previously was the patch. but i lost my willpower & started again after a few weeks. today is day 1 of me being a nonsmoker using my program. it already feels a little easier. im wearing my patch & ive only had 1 piece of candy. i am distracting myself & it is working. i am looking forward to getting together with the other people in the group tonight to discuss our first day of freedom from cigarettes.

    good luck to you all!

3 Stars Good for people with the book!
Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking is a bestselling book that many ex-smokers swear by, saying it helped them quit without any pain or regret. Tall order as any smoker can tell you! The video game here is a good way to supplement the teaching of the book, but they should be used together. What I find most helpful about this is you can carry around a DS like a pack of cigarettes and play the games any time you feel the urge to smoke.

What this game does is talk you through the basics of Allen Carr’s program. It tells you about the trap, the illusion, and how to overcome cigarette urges. You pick a “coach” which is just a person who’s picture appears during the text portions. There are mini-games you unlock as you go, and you can go back to them and play any time you like.

You really won’t want to spend tons of time with this after you successfully quit, but it does tell you things like how much money you saved and gives encouragement if you come back to it. I’d say this makes a good supplement to someone trying to give up the habit. And it’s great for them for the first few weeks. But there’s not much here other than a “Hey! Don’t Smoke!” message and mini-games to support it. Useful to a limited audience.

2 Stars Did it help me quit? No.
I was very excited to get this for Christmas, and played through it in one evening.

I have not quit smoking, and found that most of the game’s contents are just common knowledge. I did not find it very helpful at all. The mini-games have obscure ties to whatever lesson you are on and are not that much fun to begin with.

I might play through it again, but I doubt it. I’ll probably just try to occupy myself with a game I ENJOY when I quit smoking rather than this one.
